Summary
An 18-year-old in Barton County’s Juvenile Services diversion program said interview practice and application help improved his job search as he prepares for community college this fall.
Mike Daniel, the agency’s assistant director, said the mentoring program teaches clients how to apply on paper and online, present themselves in interviews and identify suitable work.
Daniel said employment gives youths constructive use of time, a paycheck and a sense of accomplishment, while reducing the risk that idle time leads to unproductive behavior.
The service reaches youths across 5 counties—Barton, Rice, Ellsworth, Stafford and Russell—and also works with parents, KANSASWORKS, Sunrise Staffing Services and local employers.
