The Philadelphia 76ers look like the biggest new threat to win the 2027 NBA championship. The clearest evidence is how sharply the market reacted after Philadelphia landed Jaylen Brown from Boston. Betting odds reportedly jumped from around 60-1 to roughly 20-1 to 22-1, a much bigger signal of immediate title credibility than most other offseason moves. Brown gives the Sixers a proven two-way wing in his prime to pair with Joel Embiid, and the team also added Anfernee Simons and Dean Wade to deepen the rotation after losing Paul George. Miami’s trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo is the flashiest move of the offseason, and it absolutely puts the Heat in the inner circle of contenders. But the supporting cast questions are more pronounced after giving up Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez, Kel’el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis. Giannis and Bam Adebayo form an elite defensive and physical core, yet Philadelphia appears more balanced right now. Boston also remains dangerous after swapping Brown for Paul George and adding Mitchell Robinson, but that looks more like a retool than the creation of a more feared superteam. The Lakers improved around Luka Doncic, but with LeBron James now a free agent, they do not yet project as the league’s most imposing new power. If LeBron were to join either Philadelphia or Miami, that would change the conversation. As of July 8, though, the 76ers have the strongest case as the offseason’s most credible new superteam threat.
