Mars Recalls 2 Pedigree Dog Food Lots Over Metal, Plastic Contamination

Summary
Two lots of 13.2-ounce Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck cans were voluntarily recalled on July 2 after Mars Petcare warned they may contain sharp metal and plastic.
Mars said the affected cans—lot codes 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC—had failed safety and quality standards and were supposed to be destroyed by a third-party vendor.
The company later found the product had been fraudulently diverted and sold in the U.S. market, and said it is working with authorities to trace how the cans reached consumers.
Consumers were told not to feed the food, to contact Pedigree for a replacement, and to call a veterinarian if a dog ate it; Mars said no illnesses or injuries have been reported.
