Dwayne Johnson to Star in Dementia Drama 'Free Byrd' for Artists Equity

Summary
Dwayne Johnson will star in and produce “Free Byrd,” an action drama centered on a Las Vegas motorcycle stuntman hiding a dementia diagnosis before one last jump.
Greg Kwedar — who also rewrote the script — is directing for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity, with Gill Netter, Fifth Season, Seven Bucks Productions and Ethos producing.
Johnson called the material deeply personal as he and Kwedar explored the story, which the producers say examines the mind’s mysteries and the need to ask for help before it is too late.
The project extends Johnson’s recent shift beyond franchise action roles after “The Smashing Machine,” with “Moana,” “Jumanji: Open World” and “Lizard Music” also on his upcoming slate.
