Summary
Mauricio Pochettino said he is "so happy" as U.S. coach and is open to staying, after Belgium knocked the USMNT out 4-1 in the round of 16 at Seattle's Lumen Field.
The Argentine said his contract expires with the tournament and that he and U.S. Soccer will rest, assess the World Cup and begin talks in the coming weeks.
Pochettino took over in fall 2024 after the U.S. exited the Copa América in the group stage under Gregg Berhalter, and had been widely expected to leave after this World Cup.
The Athletic reported last month that U.S. Soccer had already offered an extension through the 2030 World Cup, with any decision deferred until after the 2026 tournament.
