Hubble Marks U.S. 250th Birthday With 13 July 4 Images From 36 Years

NASA released 13 Hubble images built from data captured on past July 4ths, using the collection to commemorate the United States' 250th birthday.
Those pictures come from a much larger archive of nearly 3,500 July 4 data sets gathered during Hubble's first 36 years in orbit, including more than 2,500 scientific observations and nearly 1,000 calibrations.
Of the scientific observations, nearly 2,000 are images and about 500 are spectra, reflecting Hubble's use of cameras and spectrographs to record both pictures and the properties of light.
Hubble has logged more than 1.7 million observations overall, underpinning over 23,000 peer-reviewed papers; now in its 37th year, it has far outlasted its original 15-year design life.
