Summary
April 2 began with what 19-year-old Emma Selvidge thought was a bug bite, but the forehead swelling rapidly spread into her eye, sent her to the ER and led to surgery to drain an abscess.
Three hospitalizations followed as the swelling returned twice more, bringing severe sinus infections, constant headaches and temporary vision loss that later became lingering vision problems.
Numerous scans and tests eventually found mild stenosis of the right transverse sinus and narrowing in a major vein draining blood from the brain, but doctors still cannot explain the cause or define a treatment.
Selvidge, an Oklahoma resident discharged after her first stay on April 5, says she is still recovering with daily headaches, a sore throat and slow improvement while documenting the ordeal on TikTok.
