O'Ward claimed his first win and first podium of the 2026 season at Mid-Ohio, beating teammate Christian Lundgaard by 0.988 seconds for Arrow McLaren's first-ever 1-2 finish.
Lap 43 proved decisive when O'Ward closed on pole-sitter Lundgaard, passed him for the lead and then cleared lapped traffic to pull away from a late four-car fight that also included Kyle Kirkwood and Rinus VeeKay.
Kirkwood finished third and VeeKay fourth, while championship leader Alex Palou recovered only to fifth after missing the Fast 6 in a delayed qualifying session marked by rare mistakes.
Palou still leads the standings, but his margin over Kirkwood shrank to 56 points, with Lundgaard 65 back and David Malukas 66 back with six races remaining.
