Private UK pharmacies and online sellers have begun offering once-daily Wegovy tablets, making the semaglutide pill available outside the NHS after MHRA clearance.
BMI thresholds match the injection—30 and above, or 27-30 with weight-related conditions—and buyers still need an online or face-to-face consultation before supply.
1.5mg is the starting daily dose, typically rising monthly to 25mg; the pill must be taken after at least eight hours without food and 30 minutes before eating, drinking or other medicines.
£99 to £199 is the current monthly price range at some pharmacies, while NHS access remains undecided pending a NICE review of trial and cost-effectiveness data.
64-week trial data showed average weight loss of 13.61% with Wegovy tablets versus 2.18% with placebo, though experts say the drug should be used with diet and exercise rather than as a quick fix.
