Wednesday’s Trump-Zelenskyy meeting in Ankara is set to focus on ending Russia’s war in Ukraine, with a senior U.S. official saying Trump wants urgent steps toward a ceasefire.
Saturday calls with both Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin set up the talks: Zelenskyy said they discussed front-line conditions and saw “a real prospect” to end the war, while the Kremlin said Trump offered help finding a quick settlement.
A follow-up Trump-Putin contact is expected after the Zelenskyy meeting, as Kyiv tries to pull Trump’s attention back to a conflict now in its fifth year.
Trump will also meet Syria’s Ahmad al-Sharaa on Wednesday and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday, though U.S. officials gave no details on goals for the Syria talks.
