Less than a week after unveiling a 3DO acquisition, Empire Interactive said it is withdrawing from the project because it sees a likelihood of prolonged legal disputes.
The retreat scraps two planned moves tied to the revival: entering console production and pursuing remasters of retro games linked to the 3DO brand.
Email and LinkedIn statements said Empire will instead shift resources to developing its own next-generation games, to be published under the Empire Interactive label.
The reversal follows Empire's earlier claim that it had acquired the 3DO trademark and select intellectual property rights from The 3DO Company.
