Summary
July 7 will mark the sale of Princess Diana’s previously unseen 1981 honeymoon letter and photographs at Gorringe’s, from a collection owned by school friend Katherine Hanbury.
The three-page letter, dated Sept. 27, 1981 from Balmoral, describes a “blissful honeymoon” with Charles and hints at royal adjustment with the line: “Its a case of playing with grown-ups!”
Hanbury said she kept the letters and photos for about 45 years and decided to sell because she is aging and wants others to enjoy reading and viewing them.
The lot, estimated at roughly $5,400 to $8,000, also offers a portrait of Diana as an ordinary, hopeful young woman before the marriage that later unraveled in public, ending in separation, divorce and her 1997 death.
