Q: After a major injury and public feud, can Brandon Aiyuk ever reclaim his status as a top NFL receiver?

Yes, but only if he proves two things quickly: that his knee is fully back, and that a new team can trust him. Aiyuk has already shown top-receiver ability. In 2023 he had 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, and he was widely viewed as one of the league’s better route runners and downfield threats. At 28, he is not too old to return to that level. The problem is that his path back is much harder now than it would be for a healthy player changing teams. He has not played since suffering a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus in October 2024, and he missed all of 2025. For any receiver, nearly two years off after a major knee injury raises real questions about burst, separation and durability. Teams will want a full physical before committing. The feud with San Francisco has also damaged his market. The 49ers voided future guarantees after saying he failed to participate in rehab and left the team, and Aiyuk’s public criticism and social media campaign have made rival clubs more cautious. Reports that some executives view him as effectively untradeable show how much his value has fallen. Still, elite receivers have recovered from serious injuries before. If Aiyuk lands with a stable offense, passes medical checks, and produces early, the league will care far more about performance than the feud. But until he is back on the field and productive, he is no longer being judged as a top receiver — he is being judged as a high-risk reclamation project.

Washington’s potential pursuit of Brandon Aiyuk appears to have cooled after he unfollowed Jayden Daniels, posted two critical Instagram videos, and Daniels unfollowed him back.
The flare-up seems tied to a viral clip in which Daniels smiled and laughed as a 49ers fan yelled “Fuck Brandon Aiyuk!”, a reaction Aiyuk apparently took personally.
Daniels matters because the Commanders were seen as willing to chase Aiyuk only if their quarterback wanted him; after the social-media exchange, that path now looks unlikely.
Any move is still blocked unless San Francisco releases Aiyuk, which likely would not happen until he seeks reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list and reports to training camp.
