Sun-Ways Proves Rail Solar Safe After 11,000 Train Passes

Summary
More than 11,000 trains have run over Sun-Ways’ pilot solar panels without disrupting traffic, and the startup said the rail-mounted system met both safety and power-generation targets.
A purpose-built installation machine from Scheuchzer AG can lay up to 300 meters of panels an hour—more than 500 panels a day, or roughly 190 kW of capacity.
The system mounts interlocking PV panels on existing standard rails, sending electricity to the grid, stations, terminals or potentially trains, while avoiding new land purchases or rooftop retrofits.
Sun-Ways argues the concept could expand dual-use solar deployment; if 20% of the roughly 140,000 miles of active U.S. freight track were suitable, capacity could exceed 8 GW.
