EU Entry/Exit System Hits Technical Problems as Summer Travel Traffic Rises in 2026

Ursula von der Leyen said Friday the EU’s new digital Entry/Exit System is facing technical problems, publicly acknowledging disruptions in the bloc’s border-control rollout.
Member states are working with the European Commission to fix the issues, von der Leyen said at a press conference in Cork, Ireland.
The problems have become more acute as air traffic increases during Europe’s peak summer travel season, adding pressure to the system.
The Entry/Exit System has drawn concern since its gradual rollout last year, and the latest admission signals continuing operational strain at a critical travel period.
