Fremont County expanded the Aspen Acres fire response with new pre-evacuation notices, including Rockvale, Coal Creek, Newlin Ridge and a Highway 67 corridor stretching about 4.5 miles north from the Custer County line.
Evacuation orders already cover broad areas in Pueblo, Custer and Huerfano counties, from Colorado City and Wetmore to Beulah, Rye and San Isabel, with road closures and law enforcement traffic points still in place.
More than 1,000 evacuated animals had been taken in by Saturday afternoon at the Colorado State Fairgrounds, where the Pueblo Community Animal Response Team said it had enough hay; Pathfinder Park Event Center in Florence is also accepting animals.
Pueblo Academy of Arts is serving as a disaster assistance center for evacuees and residents who lost homes, reopening Monday at 1 p.m., while officials urged people under pre-evacuation notice to gather IDs, birth certificates, passports and medications.
