Americans for Prosperity used a live Declaration of Independence reading on Washington’s National Mall to launch “The Declaration Project,” targeting 100,000 Americans to reread the document by July 4.
Katelyn Bledsoe said the campaign is meant to highlight the Declaration’s non-partisan principles and enduring legacy, framing the rereading effort as a civic reminder rather than a partisan event.
The group tied the push to the Declaration’s 250th anniversary, arguing the founding text shifted political authority from monarchs to citizens through its assertion of unalienable rights.
AFP also cast the anniversary as timely amid domestic ideological battles and a broader global contest between freedom and authoritarian systems, saying a larger celebration could amplify America’s liberty message abroad.
