Al Green Renews Trump Impeachment Call Ahead of America’s 250th Independence Day

Rep. Al Green used a question about whether he was proud to be American to again argue that impeachment remains a way to remove what he called a “reckless, ruthless, lawless” President Donald Trump.
The exchange came ahead of the nation’s 250th Independence Day celebration, when Fox News Digital asked lawmakers to reflect on American pride despite sharp partisan divisions over Trump’s leadership.
Rep. Lloyd Doggett echoed Green’s anti-Trump message, warning against “authoritarianism” and a “would-be king,” while still calling the United States “the greatest country on earth.”
Other Democrats, including Shri Thanedar and Mark Pocan, also said they were proud to be American even as they criticized the administration, underscoring a split between support for U.S. ideals and opposition to Trump.
Republicans in the same interviews pointed to the Constitution, freedom and national strength as the basis for American exceptionalism, highlighting the broader July 4 contrast in how both parties frame patriotism.
