Summary
Jakarta hosted the June 18 opening of the ASEAN-Korea High Performance Computing facility, a new regional center in Indonesia for AI and data-intensive research.
The system delivers about 4.28 petaflops of peak performance, giving ASEAN researchers computing power for climate modeling, disaster-risk reduction, healthcare, industrial research and next-generation AI.
KISTI and Indonesia’s BRIN are implementing the 2024-2028 project under the Korea-ASEAN Digital Innovation Flagship program, funded by South Korea through the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund with a total budget of $10 million.
Delivered to BRIN’s Cibinong science and technology area in April, the facility will be open to researchers, institutions, industry and policy users across ASEAN and has been nominated for the TOP500 supercomputer ranking.
Through 2028, the project also plans training in HPC operations, data use and AI for about 160 local personnel, aiming to narrow regional infrastructure gaps and support a more integrated digital economy.

Overview
The ASEAN-Korea High-Performance Computing (HPC) Facility, inaugurated in Indonesia in June 2026, marks a major step in the region’s digital transformation. This facility is the result of the multi-year 'Building HPC Infrastructure and HPC Capacity for ASEAN Data Utilization Project,' running from 2024 to 2028. Supported by a USD 10 million investment from the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund and led by the Republic of Korea, the project is jointly implemented by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information and Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency. The new HPC facility is set to boost ASEAN’s research, innovation, and digital competitiveness.
