Summary
Three people died Friday after a boat capsized on Geneva Lake in southeastern Wisconsin, and seven others were pulled from the water, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office said.
Wind gusts reached about 65 mph west of the lake as a squall line swept through around 12:10 p.m., when 911 calls about the accident began, according to local officials and the National Weather Service.
Authorities have not released the victims’ identities or ages, and investigators have not said what caused the boat to overturn or whether weather was the sole factor.
The same storm system brought 50- to 60-mph winds, snapped trees and downed utility poles across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, leaving nearly 300,000 customers without power across Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin by 6 p.m. Eastern.
