Summary
Matthew Sheffer, a 44-year-old Libertyville middle school teacher, was arrested Friday and charged with possession and/or creation of child pornography after investigators found AI-altered explicit images of students on his phone.
Student reports that they believed Sheffer was taking videos of students near the end of the school year triggered the investigation, which police described as sensitive, complex and lengthy.
Libertyville School District 70 said Sheffer had worked there for 18 years and has been placed on administrative leave while the case proceeds.
Sheffer is due in court Sunday as police, prosecutors and child-advocacy officials say they are continuing to support affected students and families.
