Garland stood out for food and value, with Henderson praising its hanger steak and citing a $530 package for three nights, four rounds and access to the 10-hole Sawyer course.
Weather swung from low-to-mid-50s on Friday morning to a 105 heat index by Tuesday, after seven inches of rain the previous week left bugs and swampy conditions.
Henderson said the trip reinforced northern Michigan as his new getaway destination, comparing the annual golf escape with friends to the kind of reset he once sought in Las Vegas.
