She has also said she would not run if campaign restrictions such as electronic monitoring made a normal race impossible. In that case, Bardella, her 30-year-old protégé and RN party leader, is the clear fallback and is already polling strongly enough to reach the second round. On the non-RN side, Philippe and Mélenchon are the main rivals for a runoff place. Philippe, the center-right former prime minister, has been seen as the strongest mainstream challenger, but a new corruption probe tied to his time as mayor of Le Havre has complicated that path. Mélenchon, running for the far left, is close behind Philippe in polling and has a solid base, though his polarizing image could limit his second-round appeal. So the most plausible contenders are Bardella or Le Pen for the far right, with Philippe or Mélenchon competing to face them. At this stage, the race looks fragmented, but a National Rally presence in the runoff appears the safest bet.
