House Rules Committee Blocks $1 Billion Delphi Pension Amendment From Defense Bill

Summary
A House Rules Committee decision left Mike Turner’s amendment to restore Delphi salaried retirees’ pensions out of the defense policy bill, clouding the measure’s path after years of lobbying.
Virginia Foxx said a point of order had been raised and the committee does not waive such objections, rejecting Turner’s push to add the provision during a tense exchange.
Turner said the amendment had backing from Speaker Mike Johnson, Armed Services Chairman Mike Rogers and President Donald Trump, and he opposed several House procedural votes after it was excluded.
The proposal would direct $1 billion to boost pensions cut after Delphi transferred salaried retiree obligations to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. during its 2009 bankruptcy, a fight retirees have waged for 17 years.
Even if revived in the House, the pension measure would still need Senate approval and Trump’s signature to become law.
