Summary
Trump said he will deliver a “really long speech” on July 4 on the National Mall despite a forecast high of 101 degrees in Washington, after claiming the temperature would be about 107.
National Weather Service forecasts show a three-day stretch above 100 degrees starting July 2, with the heat index topping 110 and raising risks of sunstroke, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The speech is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET, after a 7 p.m. “Salute to America” program, when temperatures should be lower than the daytime peak.
The event pushes the fireworks to 10:30 p.m. ET, later than past Fourth of July celebrations, as the display marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Freedom 250, the Trump-aligned organizer, says fireworks launched from 10 sites will form the “largest fireworks display in history.”
