Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista used a “Pope’s Day Mass” at Manila Cathedral on Monday to call on Catholics to pray for Pope Leo XIV as he leads the Church through mounting global crises.
Evangelista said the pope’s role reaches beyond Church governance to promoting peace, justice and compassion for people hit by war, poverty and suffering.
Leo’s recent solidarity with earthquake victims in Venezuela was cited as evidence of that pastoral focus, alongside his repeated calls for humanitarian aid and dialogue in conflict zones since his May 8, 2025 election.
The appeal came on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, a feast that highlights the pope’s Petrine ministry and the Church’s duty to preserve and pass on the faith.
