Summary
Four Chandra-based images rendered in red, white and blue were released by NASA to mark the United States' 250th birthday, alongside three new sonifications that turn astronomical data into sound.
The set pairs Chandra X-ray data with Webb, Hubble and ground-based observations, highlighting Cassiopeia A, the star-forming nebula NGC 3603, spiral galaxy Messier 94 and galaxy cluster ZwCl 0024+1652.
Three bottom-row objects received audio treatments: NGC 3603 uses piano notes and guitar harmonics, Messier 94 adds wind-like sounds and glass marimba tones, and ZwCl 0024+1652 maps bright regions to piano, glockenspiel-like and synthesizer sounds.
NASA said the release is part of its Universe of Learning effort, with the Chandra X-ray Center leading the sonification program and Marshall Space Flight Center managing the observatory.
