Vanity Fair reported Beau DeMayo said Marvel colleagues made him feel like a “DEI hire,” alleging racist, sexist and homophobic treatment on “X-Men ’97” and later on “Blade.”
16 days after “X-Men ’97” premiered in March 2024, Disney fired DeMayo following an internal investigation that Marvel said found “egregious” sexual-misconduct evidence; DeMayo has denied that and called it a smear campaign.
September 2024 brought DeMayo’s lawsuit seeking relief from a non-disparagement clause he says Marvel coerced him into signing, with trial now scheduled for July 2027.
Season 2 of “X-Men ’97” premiered Wednesday on Disney+ still crediting DeMayo as creator, executive producer and writer, while Matthew Chauncey is already leading the greenlit third season.
