Three pre-dawn firebomb attacks struck apartment buildings in Thessaloniki between 4 a.m. and 4:45 a.m., leaving five people hospitalized and one in serious condition, authorities said.
Camping-gas explosive devices were used in all three attacks, and all injuries came in the last blast, where cars and motorcycles caught fire outside one building.
One burned car reportedly belonged to a New Democracy parliamentary candidate, who suffered burns; her mother was taken to intensive care, while three other residents were treated for smoke inhalation.
New Democracy called the assaults a terrorist attack aimed at killing party members and said the governing party would not be intimidated.
Political firebombings are relatively frequent in Greece, though they usually cause only property damage; similar attacks in Thessaloniki in 2025 and Athens in 2024 injured bystanders and security personnel.
