Canada entered July 1 with a renewed sense of national pride, driven in part by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s restoration of dignity, seriousness and technocratic competence to the country’s top office.
That shift follows years in which Ottawa’s foreign policy often seemed shaped by social-media politics rather than statecraft, feeding a sense that more disciplined leadership has returned.
Carney’s early boost to public mood still faces hard limits from a sluggish economy, a fractured political landscape and the diplomatic constraints that come with Canada’s middle-power status.
Broader patriotism has also been rising: an Angus Reid poll previously showed the share of Canadians who were 'very proud' climbed to 44% in early 2025 from 34% in late 2024.
