Twenty-two Democratic senators asked EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to reverse discipline against employees fired after signing a public dissent letter criticizing the Trump administration.
The lawmakers said restoring the staff is necessary to avoid a chilling effect on free speech and to preserve experienced personnel needed for the agency’s public-health mission.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen led the Tuesday letter, which argued that suppressing internal criticism weakens EPA’s ability to protect the public.
