Summary
Trump’s lawyers asked E. Jean Carroll on Monday to consent to delaying release of the $5 million judgment after the Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal; Carroll rejected the request.
Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan then asked a federal judge to expedite disbursement of the money held in a court-controlled account, saying Carroll is also owed $779,783 in interest.
Kaplan said the sides had agreed in a June 2023 filing that Carroll could collect if the Supreme Court denied review, and argued further delay would prolong nearly four years of litigation.
The justices’ refusal left intact the 2023 jury verdict finding Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation; Trump has denied Carroll’s account and is considering asking the court to reconsider.
A separate January 2024 defamation verdict awarded Carroll additional damages that Trump is also appealing, extending a broader legal fight that has already reached the Supreme Court twice.
