AWS on Tuesday designated Anduril its preferred edge provider for defense customers, pairing Anduril’s Menace-I mobile command center with AWS Outposts to push cloud computing closer to combat.
The combined system is meant to cut battlefield data-transfer delays by letting troops run cloud applications on site; Anduril says two people can set up the containerized node in under 10 minutes.
Menace-I has already been used during Operation Epic Fury and deployed with the Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy, while AWS Outposts have operated in the region from protected structures.
The tie-up reflects a wider military shift toward distributed, mobile computing after fixed operations centers proved vulnerable, including an Iranian strike during Epic Fury that killed six U.S. Army reservists.
Does outsourcing critical military infrastructure to tech giants like Amazon create new national security vulnerabilities?
Can Anduril's high-tech systems truly shift the balance of power, or just spark a new digital arms race?

Anduril and AWS Secure $100M CDAO Contract to Advance Edge AI and Autonomous Military Operations
Overview
Anduril Industries has achieved a major milestone by securing a $100 million contract from the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) in December 2024. This contract is a pivotal step for the U.S. military, directly supporting the Pentagon’s vision for Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2). The main goal is to scale edge data integration across military operations, enabling the development of decentralized and distributed systems. These efforts align with broader Defense Department initiatives, such as advancing next-generation drones and counter-drone technologies, and are crucial for enhancing rapid, resilient, and autonomous mission support in complex environments.
