The Knicks are the safest proven winner because they are the reigning champions, but they are a slightly less compelling fit. New York beat San Antonio in the Finals and has a championship core led by Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby. Still, the Knicks face heavier tax and apron pressure, which could make adding James more complicated, and oddsmakers have them behind San Antonio for 2027. Miami has the highest theoretical ceiling if the reported Giannis Antetokounmpo-Bam Adebayo core is in place and James joins it. Erik Spoelstra and a LeBron-Giannis pairing would be formidable. But the path is less certain. The Heat’s title odds, even after the Giannis move, remain well behind the top tier, and the mechanics likely require James to take a minimum-level deal or another steep discount. If James wants the most realistic path to a title right now, San Antonio stands out. If he wants the boldest superteam swing, Miami is the gamble.
