Vincent Battiloro Charged With 2 Murders as Dashcam Undercuts Carjacking Claim

Two first-degree murder counts were filed against 18-year-old Vincent Battiloro after New Jersey prosecutors moved the Sept. 29, 2025 case into adult court.
Dashcam footage from his Jeep Compass allegedly showed Battiloro driving to Burnside Avenue in Cranford, making a U-turn, following 17-year-olds Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas on an e-bike, and hitting them at high speed.
That video contradicted Battiloro's statement to police that an unknown man in a red mask had carjacked him earlier that day and was driving the vehicle.
After the crash, Battiloro allegedly fled on foot; his identity was made public only after the adult-court transfer because he had been a minor at the time.
The victims' family welcomed the adult prosecution as a step toward justice, while their lawyer also pointed to earlier alleged swatting incidents and questions about what police knew before the killings.
