Summary
The three companies will start a proof of concept in the second half of 2026 connecting Sakura Internet's Ishikari Data Center in Hokkaido with an Equinix facility in Tokyo.
NTT East will provide the link through its All-Photonics Connect service powered by IOWN, testing whether low-latency, high-capacity optical networking can better handle distributed computing and AI workloads.
The trial is also meant to assess operational performance between the two sites, offering a real-world test of long-distance data-center interconnection for AI infrastructure in Japan.
