Pod Save America Warns Democrats After 3 New York Socialist Primary Wins

Dan Pfeiffer called last week’s New York primary upsets a “giant warning sign” for Democrats, arguing establishment backing from leaders like Chuck Schumer or Hakeem Jeffries can now hurt candidates.
He said left-wing groups including the DSA, Justice Democrats and Our Revolution are out-organizing, out-fundraising and outmaneuvering traditional party institutions, capturing activist energy the establishment has lost.
Jon Favreau said the immediate panic centers on Darializa Avila Chevalier, one of three candidates backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani who won, and described her positions as ranging from “moronic to abhorrent.”
Favreau pointed to her attendance at an October 8, 2023 anti-Israel rally, opposition to all deportations, support for open borders and prison abolition, saying Democrats should clearly distance themselves from those views.
The comments underscore a widening Democratic split after a string of democratic socialist primary wins, even as Favreau noted New York’s heavily liberal electorate is not fully representative of the country.
