Sony Teases PS6 Beyond Living Room as CEO Weighs 2027 Pricing and AI Push

Sony told investors its next-generation PlayStation will extend “beyond the living room,” with CEO Hideaki Nishino pointing to broader usage styles that strongly suggest a portable or handheld element.
Nishino framed that shift as a way to win back players who moved to PC during lockdown, saying Sony wants the next platform to offer PlayStation-specific value rather than simply serve as a PC alternative.
Pricing remains under review because Sony says it cannot absorb all component-cost increases and does not plan to sell hardware at significant losses, signaling a potentially expensive PS6 when it arrives.
AI is also central to the plan: Sony says it already uses AI to detect PlayStation Store fraud and is expanding it into game development through placeholder assets, synthetic voices and other AI-first experiments.
The comments add to earlier signals that PS6 is still expected in 2027, with Sony pitching mobility, pricing discipline and AI integration as the pillars of its next console strategy.
