Summary
A remake of 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was reportedly in development around 2018 at Sony’s Visual Arts Support Group before Sony dropped it and shifted to The Last of Us Part I.
Michael Kemp said the team built a small vertical slice—recreating the plane-to-island cutscene with Uncharted 4-level visuals—to show what a modern remake could look like.
That prototype reportedly left traces in The Last of Us Part II’s files because both projects used the same engine, offering evidence the remake work existed.
Sony ultimately judged the first Uncharted would need broader modernization of levels and set pieces than expected, making The Last of Us Part I the easier remake target.
Although this remake was shelved, Uncharted activity may not be over: in April, Lost Legacy co-director Shaun Escayg posted a Trinidad and Tobago scouting photo labeled “Research...”
