Summary
More than three hours of talks in Beijing brought Alexander Lukashenko and Xi Jinping together on June 29, with Xi calling China-Belarus ties at a “historic peak” and the two sides discussing deeper cooperation.
Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov said the agenda covered political, economic and industrial cooperation, while Lukashenko pushed for closer links in investment and other economic sectors.
The visit came days after Lukashenko met Vladimir Putin in Valdai, sharpening attention on Minsk’s role in Russia’s war after Belarus let Russian forces use its territory for the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine has recently warned against deeper Belarusian involvement, with Volodymyr Zelensky saying communications equipment allegedly supporting Russian drone attacks from Belarus stopped operating on June 24 even as border military infrastructure neared completion.
