Samsung has widened camera sourcing for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra, adding suppliers to cut component costs and reduce production risk ahead of their launches.
4 suppliers — Camsys, MCNEX, Namuga and Powerlogics — are slated to provide modules for the Fold 8 line, while the Flip 8 will source front modules from Camsys and MCNEX and rear parts from Powerlogics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Sunny Optical.
Camera specs remain high-end despite the supply shift: the Flip 8 is tipped to keep a 50MP main camera, the Fold 8 to use 50MP main and ultrawide cameras, and the Fold 8 Ultra to carry a 200MP main sensor.
Rising DRAM and NAND prices are pushing Samsung to tighten costs as it prepares a broader foldables range — from the lower-priced Z Flip 8 FE to the premium Z Fold 8 Ultra — and braces for Apple's expected foldable iPhone Ultra.
