Summary
£20,000 from Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation will fund about 9,000 meals for Cardiff Foodbank after the band’s Principality Stadium show.
The charity had appealed for help two weeks earlier, saying its warehouse was unusually bare as food donations fell 27% while demand held at last year’s level.
Cardiff Foodbank supports 20,000 people a year through eight centres and a mobile service, with children accounting for one-third of those fed last year.
Rachel Biggs called it the charity’s biggest celebrity donation, saying the money will let it place a bulk order to replenish stock amid £700,000 annual running costs.
Metallica’s foundation, launched in 2017, also partnered with the Welsh Blood Service around the concert, with blood and plasma donation sessions running across Wales through July 3.
