Big Bear Eaglet Sandy Falls From Nest at Nearly 12 Weeks as Luna Startles Her

Sandy dropped from the Big Bear bald eagle nest Sunday morning in an accidental fledge and appeared to land on a lower branch out of the live camera's view.
Friends of Big Bear Valley said Luna startled her while trying to jump over her, causing Sandy to lose her footing as she attempted to fly out on her own.
Jackie moved in immediately to watch Sandy, and the nonprofit said both parents will follow and feed her while camera operators search for her position.
Young eagles usually leave the nest around 13 weeks; Sandy and Luna are nearly 12 weeks old, putting the fall slightly ahead of a typical first flight.
