Poston made a 12 on the par-5 13th Sunday at the Travelers Championship, turning a routine scoring chance into the collapse that sent him to a 76 and 69th place at 1-over.
A fairway drive and greenside bunker approach unraveled when his bunker shot came up short, his fourth shot ran across the green into the water, and three drop attempts rolled back in before he reached the green on stroke 10.
Poston said the grainy lie and a false front made chipping seem safer than putting from the rough, but the repeated chips still fed the ball back into the water.
The meltdown continued with a double bogey on 14, while the tournament itself moved to a Monday playoff after Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler finished tied at 21-under.
