Summary
Aug. 28 is the release date for Pearce’s fifth studio album, “Honest Woman,” which she says is her most vulnerable record yet and a return to form.
“Church Girl” captured that risk-taking approach: Pearce said the song worried people in her inner circle because it mixes religion with sex, drugs, drinking and same-sex themes.
Ben West co-produced the album, which also includes collaborations with Dan Tyminski, Molly Tuttle and Riley Green, whom Pearce praised as a standout storyteller.
Sept. 10 marks the start of her “Honest Women: Up Close” run in Detroit, with two-night residencies in intimate venues across Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston and New York through Oct. 22.
Pearce said the project grew out of a need to “find myself again,” linking the new album to the personal candor of her earlier record “29.”
