Thai Police Arrest 46-Year-Old Australian in Suitcase Murder of 17-Year-Old Girl

Bangkok airport officers detained a 46-year-old Australian at about 9:30 p.m. Friday as he prepared to board a Jetstar flight to Perth, in a case tied to a 17-year-old Thai girl.
Pattaya police said the girl's body was found in a suitcase behind the Floating Market after investigating her disappearance and questioning the suspect, who allegedly told officers where the suitcase had been discarded.
CCTV shared by local media showed the teenager holding hands with a Caucasian man near an elevator shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday, and later showed a man removing a suitcase from the building.
Police said the arrest followed a watch notice sent to immigration officers to stop the man leaving Thailand; local reports said he now faces charges related to murder and concealment of a body.
Australia's foreign affairs department confirmed it is providing consular assistance to an Australian detained in Thailand but declined further comment.
