Summary
D.C. agreed Thursday to pay Sam O’Hara an undisclosed amount to settle his lawsuit over his arrest during a National Guard protest, according to an ACLU court filing.
O’Hara, 35, said city police handcuffed and detained him on Sept. 11 after he filmed Guard troops from a distance and played the “Imperial March”; he was later released without charges.
The settlement follows an agreement in principle reached in February and does not require any change in Metropolitan Police Department policy; the department said the incident was referred to internal affairs.
Sergeant Devon Beck of the Ohio National Guard, who allegedly threatened to call police on O’Hara, remains a defendant in the case and is being defended by Justice Department lawyers.
