Summary
Grand Départ GB and British Cycling opened the Readiness to Work programme, giving 18- to 25-year-olds work experience tied to the UK-hosted 2027 Tour de France Grand Départ.
300 'JOY Maker' volunteers will get CV and interview coaching, financial-awareness training and personal development support, plus three months of mentoring from event, sport and marketing professionals.
Cumberland Council is backing the scheme as Carlisle hosts the finish of Stage One on July 2, 2027, and Keswick starts Stage Two on July 3, with the route running through the Lake District.
British Cycling said the programme targets a wider employability gap, citing more than 1 million 16- to 24-year-olds not in employment, education or training, with 84% wanting to change that.
The initiative sits within British Cycling's JOY social-impact plan for a Tour expected to draw millions, as 2027 becomes the first year both the men's and women's Tours start outside France in the same country.
