Q: Beyond laughs, what message does this Obama-produced historical satire have for modern America?

Its message is that America is strongest when it can examine itself honestly: the country’s history is inspiring, but it has always been shaped by ordinary human flaws as much as by lofty ideals. That idea is built into the series’ premise. By starting with real historical facts and then letting Larry David’s famously petty, uncomfortable persona disrupt them, the show argues that history is not only made by heroes and grand principles. It is also driven by ego, grievance, selfishness, prejudice and absurdity. In that sense, the satire pushes back against a polished, mythic version of the national story.
