NPS to Drain Reflecting Pool After July 4 as 7 Arrested in Alleged Sabotage

National Park Service plans to drain the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool again after July 4 to assess and repair damage detailed in a federal court filing released by the White House.
June 9 damage included caulk over cut foam sealant, destruction of delaminating surface material and about 70 fence-post tops thrown into the pool, according to NPS Deputy Director Frank Lands.
Seven people have been arrested, seven others cited and 18 police reports filed, while U.S. Park Police this week sought help identifying a person seen on video reaching into the water.
The repairs follow more than two months of Trump-ordered renovations and come as Washington prepares for large July 4 crowds tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
